I actually turned on my sewing machine this week! It’s a miracle! I was starting to think I had imagined this past year and that I didn’t actually know how to sew.

It’s amazing how quickly you forget certain things when you go for awhile without doing it. I had to look back at an old pattern to figure out exactly how to paper piece again. I remembered what to do but I kept second guessing myself and needed reassurance that I wasn’t going to spend a bunch of time unpicking everything in order to move forward. I am also out of practice with taking pictures as I go. I need to work on it.

I was only able to get the one block done this week, but after weeks of not sewing anything I’m pretty happy with it. Plus, I’m pretty pleased with how everything has lined up. It’s not perfect, but it is pretty darn close. The best part about this week was my husbands reaction when he saw the finished block. I had left it out on my sewing table and when he walked by he literally stopped in his tracks and said, “Wow!” The gradiance really does look amazing.

It felt really great to sew again and I’m extremely excited to start working on assembling this BOM quilt. I have two more main blocks to do, some more sashings, and two more accent blocks, but then I’ll be able to start putting it all together. I have all of the patterns and the material, I just need to do it! That is what I will be focusing on the next few weeks. I cannot wait to see this year long project come together in one final piece!
