I just love this quilt.

I had really hoped that I would have it finished before May, but here we are on the 3rd and I have just sandwiched the front and back together. I have my plan for the quilting portion so once I get going on that I should get through it relatively quickly. I say that a lot though.

The problem is the fact that life is so unpredictable.

I’ve been suffering from depression and I never know how I’m going to feel from day to day. It’s difficult to feel motivated some days. Then there’s the kids. My three year old keeps me very busy and the older girls all have school which means homework.

There are appointments for doctors, dentists, orthodontists, speech, and therapy. Life is crazy.

But amongst all of that craziness there is quilting which is a nice escape for me.

This particular sandwich was frustrating to put together. I used basting spray which I love because I don’t have to deal with the pins. It’s easy to use and works well. The frustration came with batting.

I’ve chosen a natural cotton batting that I’ve used before. The last quilt I used was also frustrating and I’ve realized it’s because of the batting. There is a tendency for it to stretch as I smooth out the top backing which is a problem when the top quilt has already been basted on. It creates bumps throughout the quilt that I have to smooth out and if I’m not careful I will create a whole new set of bumps.

I’d switch to a different batting but I love the lift that this brand has and I like the way the quilt lays when it’s finished. I suppose dealing with a little stretch isn’t the worst thing and once it’s all smoothed out I don’t have to worry about it anymore.

What are you favorite brands for batting? Can I find one with the low lift that I like without dealing with all of the stretch? I’d love to hear about it if you know of one.
